The scene: 1930s Chicago.  Johnny Hooker and Henry Gondorff are small time “grifters”, or con men, who decide to exact vengeance on a local gangster who ordered a “hit” on a friend. Hooker and Gondorff set up an elaborate scheme—a sting—to steal money from the gangster. That’s the storyline for the 1973 box-office hit, The Sting, starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford, and featuring the Ragtime tunes of composer Scott Joplin. The Sting, which won seven Academy Awards, is the theme for St. Catherine’s Center for Children’s 2nd Annual Golden Age of SCCCript & SCCCreen, a tribute to Hollywood’s best movies. The event—a dinner and dance—will be held on Thursday, April 22 at 5:30 pm at the 11 North Pearl Event Centre in Albany. The breath-taking  art-deco of 11 North Pearl will take guests back in time to 1930s Chicago, where Johnny Hooker (Robert Redford) and Henry Gondorff (Paul Newman) conducted their famous sting. Guests are encouraged to wear 1930s period dress, and will enjoy the swing-era music of the Jump Daddies. As a special treat, classically trained pianist Curtis Funk will perform The Sting’s signature tune, Scott Joplin’s The Entertainer, as well as other popular Ragtime tunes. It is an event you won’t want to miss! Tickets for the 2nd Annual Golden Age of SCCCript & SCCCreen are $75 per person and can be ordered online. Honorary Committee tickets are available for $150 per person. The price includes dinner, dancing, and valet parking. Other surprises are in store, so be sure to reserve your tickets today! All proceeds will benefit the children and families served by St. Catherine’s.
