R & E May School/Day Treatment

The R. & E. May School

The Day Treatment Program at the R&E May School provides a uniquely integrated set of educational and mental health services to school age youngsters who demonstrate a significant impairment in social and emotional development. Children considered for enrollment have substantial difficulty managing encounters with school, peers, parents and the general community. The major aim of the program is to teach the academic, social/emotional and life skills necessary to cope effectively with a neighborhood school program and the child's community.
Educational and mental health staff work side-by-side to carefully tailor a therapeutic experience within an educational setting. Counseling and other supportive programs are offered to parents to further enhance the effectiveness of the treatment provided to the children.
Boys and girls, ages 5 through 12, are enrolled in the program without regard for race, creed, color, or national origin. To be enrolled, a child must be considered to have an emotional disability by the committee on special education of the child's school district.
Committees on Special Education of school districts may refer children by sending the child's individual educational plan and other supporting documentation to the R. & E. May School in care of the Admissions Coordinator. Pre-referral visits by district personnel and parents are welcome and may be arranged through the admissions coordinator.
