Special Friends Group

The Foundation of St. Catherine's is looking for warm-hearted people who wish to help us directly serve the needs of our children. St. Catherine’s Center for Children operates two group residential facilities and two group homes where a total of 40 children (ranging in age from 5 to 12 years) are cared for each day.  All of these children have emotional and behavioral problems that contribute to low self-esteem and feelings of hopelessness.
We have a new group that we call Special Friends. These generous people have agreed to

anonymously and periodically send small gifts and cards to a child at St. Catherine’s who has no family ties or relationships outside of our care. These gifts might include toiletries, hair ribbons, books, small games, stuffed toys and arts and craft supplies.

On special holidays, a card and candy or small gifts may be sent. Special gifts at Christmas and birthdays

would be  appreciated. The children are told that they have a special friend who cares about them and

wants them to be happy.
Special Friends may choose to help a boy or a girl, and are provided with general information about

the child, including  age, birthday, sizes, favorite colors, hobbies, reading levels and special interests.

Although our Special Friends may never  meet these children face to face, they can be sure that their

generosity and kindness is deeply appreciated and helps our  children feel important and hopeful.
The Foundation would love to have more Special Friends for all the children who do not have

families of their own. Anyone interested in becoming a Special Friend may contact Beth McNally in the Foundation office, 453-6756, or e-mail emcnally@st-cath.org.
