ALBANY, N.Y. – Today, St. Catherine’s Center for Children, one of the Capital Region’s leading health and human services agencies announced the hiring of its new executive director, Kevin Doherty. The conclusion of an extensive executive search and the beginning of Doherty’s tenure at the nearly 140-year-old agency signals positive change and a bright future for the organization which serves thousands of vulnerable children, families and adults every year.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the incredible team at St. Catherine’s Center for Children and I’m looking forward to the many things we will accomplish together in service to those in need,” said Doherty. “This organization has a long history, deeply rooted in service to our local community, and has expanded to many other regions of New York state throughout the years. I’m excited about our future as we continue to offer quality programming and services while always looking for ways to improve how we serve those in need.”

Doherty has more than 30 years of experience in non-profit management, state-level program oversight and youth services. His most recent post, prior to joining St. Catherine’s, was as executive director of Safe Inc. of Schenectady which serves individuals experiencing or vulnerable to homelessness/housing insecurity and human-trafficking. Before Safe Inc., Doherty led clinical services at St. Anne Institute in Albany. He also spent 20 years with the State, leading teams at the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Support as well as the Division of Budget. As Assistant Director of the Bureau of Addiction Treatment Centers at OASAS, Doherty was responsible for the operational, fiscal, and programmatic oversight of 12 inpatient centers, serving 10,000 state residents, annually. As its Director of Financial Management, his team was responsible for the management of $1 billion in funding. At DOB Doherty led the teams responsible for developing budgets for many of New York’s human services agencies.

“This is exciting for our agency,” said St. Catherine’s Deputy Executive Director, Brian Perrotto. “Kevin’s wealth of knowledge and experience is a major asset to add to a very strong team at St. Catherine’s. His experience as a leader in both the human services field and in finance will help us tremendously as we build on our legacy of service while we also look for ways to continue to grow and improve as we shape the agency’s future. Everyone, from our senior leadership on down, is looking forward to working with him.”

“On behalf of St. Catherine’s Board of Directors, I am excited to welcome Kevin as our new executive director,” said Board President, Amy Kramer. “St. Catherine’s will benefit, greatly, from the experience and expertise he has gained in his 30-year career with both State and human services agencies. The Board and I are confident in Kevin’s ability to advance St. Catherine’s mission, and we are looking forward to a bright future for the agency.”

Doherty holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Brockport and a Master of Public Administration from the University at Albany’s Nelson Rockefeller College of Public Affairs.

The willingness of St. Catherine’s Center for Children to embrace change and develop new services is, and will remain, our guiding philosophy as we support human service needs, throughout the region, by providing a comprehensive range of services designed to offer hope, foster growth and improve the lives of the children, families and adults we serve.
